I have been trying to start the free trial first with the SIM card that was sent to me and then with the esim and I have not been successful. Every time I get to the activation screen they try to charge my account. What am I doing wrong?

Visible doesn't offer a free trial using a physical SIM, only eSIM. Sounds like you may have started a permanent account if you got a physical SIM.
Might want to start over using a different email address. If so, use the Start free trial button at:
