Is there some way I can text from my PC to an iPhone using some variation of the recipient's phone number?

Ah interesting question.
I came across this article
https://www.verizon.com/about/news/vzw/2013/06/computer-to-phone-text-messaging
Option 2: email to <visible mobile number>@vtext.com
Tried out myself, to my surprise it worked (thanks to visible being on Verizon network).
Email is received as text (SMS).
P.S: Please mark the answer as solution if it helped you. Thanks.

If you have your Visible sim card in an Android phone you can use Google Messages on a PC to send a text. If you have a Gmail account you can get a free Google voice phone number and also text from a PC.
Best!

Thanks for your prompt answer.
I don't have an Android phone or a Gmail account. You suggest "text from a PC". I'm using Win11 and Outlook (not Outlook.com). I have used the "V" network with a URL prefix before. Is there something equivalent in Visible?
Thanks!

Moxie, thought you would like to know a solution just posted by Upstate-SC
"email to <visible mobile number>@vtext.com"
That works with my system. I'll report back if any glitches show up.

What others have said works. but I think this might help as well.
If their number is on Verizon/Visible then texting (# = 10 number phone number) ##########@vtext.com then emailing from whatever email service (yahoo, gmail, etc.) will work.
If they do not. You can go to https://voice.google.com and sign up for a free phone number and use their interface to send the person (even a non-iPhone user) a picture message from your computer.
I am mainly a PC & Android user, but did a little research, if you have an iPhone, you can download an app like this https://apps.apple.com/us/app/iweb-sms/id944770820 and send texts via your computer.
