Moto 5g Stylus

1) I bought an unlocked Moto 5g Stylus from BestBuy. It worked flawlessly with my old visible plan(party pay).

2) Last week I was forced to upgrade to so called better plan with same rate($25) with free phone it works on new phone.

3) The problem is when I insert this new chip in Moto 5g Stylus only voice and text works. Hotspot could not be turned on. I get error message checking subscription and ask me to call Verizon.

It worked with old chip and old plan but new chip blocks hotspot.

I tried everything but could not turn the hotspot. I like Moto 5g stylus (256gb) and continue to use it.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

The issue is likely that it isn't a Visible model phone. Unless Best Buy sold you a Visible model phone the model numbers are different for the same phone that Visible sells. It has slightly different software programmed to it for phone made for Visible versus the same phone sold by Best Buy or the other big 3 service providers. I know this for a fact after chatting with Motorola customer service about 4 months ago about this issue with their phones not compatible on Visible even though they sell the same phone. If it is asking you to call Verizon did you buy the phone unlocked from BB. You can see if Visible customer service can help you out but if it is locked to Verizon there isn't much they can do.

Only thing I could suggest is trying to do a network reset, Visible will have you do the same and see if that fixes it. Make sure and change you hotspot name and password back because a network reset will erase that and add a new one. Other thing to try is doing a factory reset if you are willing to go that far.

Thank you for replying to my issue.

1) This phone Moto 5G Stylus worked on original $25 friends an family SIM card flawlessly for TALK TXT HOTSPOT EVERYTHING.

2) When visible forced in new VISIBLE plan the new SIM works just for talk text. HOT SPOT NOT WORKING

3) This new SIM does not allow hot spot to work. They sell the same phone.

4) I spent 2-3 weeks chatting and it does not help.

Only visible can answer this issue.

I purchased a Motorola Stylus 5G 2023 phone from Best Buy, as I had a gift card.  I upgraded to Visible Plus a week ago.  I moved the SIM card from my old 2020 Stylus phone which was 4G LTE only.  The 2023 phone is working on the 5G network.  However, I tested the 5G speed against my iPhone that is on regular Verizon.  The Verizon phone was over twice as fast as the Visible phone, although same Verizon tower and Visible Plus is supposed to be at high priority data apeed until 50GB used up.  I hadn't reached 2GB yet.  I contacted Visible customer support.  They verified that I am on Visible Plus.  They asked for my Motorola 2023 IMEI number.  That came back as not compatible with Visible, so that is the reason that the 5G is slower than the Verizon phone.  However, Visible sells the same model phone on their web site.  So I believe that Visible is purposely not accepting Motorola phones not sold by them.  I also believe this because a friend of mine bought a Motorola Power 2021 phone from Amazon.  It worked fine under the old party pricing.  When Visible switched to individual pricing, his phone stopped working.  When he contacted Visible support, they told him that his phone is no longer compatible with Visible.  How can it work, but not be compatible?  It made no sense!  He ended up exiting from Visible, because the phone stopped working on their network.  Their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) appears to be some kind of sick joke.  Not sure what is going on with all of this.

I think they want u to buy from them also as mine isn't working either. Very poor customer service also.

I agree with that as there cheapest phones $80 and $120 are both 4G.

Been meaning to cone back and update, I can confirm that the Motorola 5G stylus, and the Motorola G Stylus (2023)  both work, everything ,  I'm on my 5G right now.

I have a G Power 2021 that was deemed not compatible after the system upgrade in fall of 2022. I bought a new phone because of this. When the new card for the system upgrade arrived I put it in that 2021 phone and not the new and it activated and worked just fine. The only thing wrong is that it shows not compatible but everything worked even hotspot. It is just a back up phone.

The issue with Visible and Motorola phones is if you don't buy the phone from Visible it won't pass the IMEI compatibility checker, that is because Motorola makes phones for Visible with a unique model number, just like they or the others makes phone for the big 3 carriers. Also, for some reason when Visible did the system upgrade they wiped out all Motorola phones they sold prior to 2022 from the IMEI data. I say that because my 2021 G Power was bought from Visible when I joined in 2021. I argued with customer service about this noncompatible issue from a year old phone I bought from them and they told me it didn't have the right technology. After I activated it and it worked without issue I contacted them again and told them they lied to me and forced me to buy a new phone that I didn't need. They ended the conversation after saying if I use an unapproved device they can deny help if I have issues with service. I am using the new phone since it was already bought and couldn't be returned(bought used on eBay) so the old serves as a backup.

There can be some issue with some Motorola phones that are 2020 or older though, such as possibly the hotspot not working, visual voicemail and maybe wi-fi calling not working.

Wow that happened to me I'd go back to boost!

And ya that was my issue, I had the 5g stylus 2021, it had a cracked screen so I was do for a new phone anyway.

So everything worked except HOTSPOT and Wi-Fi calling, my main reason for the switch was the Hotspot.

So I ordered a 5g 2023, which seller lied it was a "G" no 5g service, but everything worked.

Found a "used", looks brand new, 5G 2023 on Ebay for $85.  been going good ever since....

I started with Visible in 2021 for my first time ever on cell service and using a smart phone after retiring and deciding I wanted a cell phone. I never had a cell phone because a number of MVNO don't work in my area and the big 3 are upwards of $100 a month. Also, no other carrier/MVNO offers unlimited data, especially hotspot, most cap it to unusable speeds(<1Mbps) after a small amount of GB's are used. At least with Visible the hotspot is truly unlimited but capped at 5Mbps(10Mbps on the new plus plan) speeds but that I can put up with easy. So, for this reason I won't leave.

I found out about the after long arguments with Visible and then with Motorola verifying they actually make Visible models. I spent hours searching for reasonably priced Motorola phones on eBay, after checking 100+ phones that listed IMEI numbers I finally found just one that passed the IMEI checker and it happened to have been sold by Visible earlier in 2022. I bid on it and got it for something like $60, I think around $80 total with taxes and shipping so not bad for a $215 phone new. Bad thing is Visible lied saying it didn't have the correct technology as mentioned when the card arrived for the new system I activated in the 2021 model without issue. Which lead me into another argument with Visible incompetent/under trained agents and that was when they told me about not helping me using an approved device and ended the chat.

Considering what they are offering and what I have saved overgoing with the big 3 or a decent MVNO I can't complain to much. It's just sad that they won't fix their IMEI database.

One other thing, I only went with Motorola since they have making mobile radio and phones long before anyone else going back to the radio operators in the late 70's or early 80's and the the bag phones that was probably the beginning of the carry type mobile phone. I am now done with Motorola after buying the second phone because I didn't realize how bad their OS/security update policy is. In a conversation I had with Motorola asking about this security policy and why other were offering over twice as many updates, they responded "we can't update them forever" so I took that in a snarky way and I will no longer buy Motorola. Not sure I would do iPhone but I will spend a little more and get a decent Samsung or Pixel next.

Lol, thanks for the flashback!

I remember my Dad when I was 11, standing in the front yard with his "brick" and a convenient solder strap to hold the 20 pound battery!

But ya, on your statement, In searching, I learned about the customer service, porting my old number in, Ect.

And I knew that's the last thing I wanted to deal with...

On the Motorola issue, for me it's not bad, I was on Android 12 before I decided to do this switch..  now updated to android 14, and the security updates....

but ya Motorola only does 2 years on the updates then they're done...

on the pixel or whatever phone you choose Goodluck, I heard Google only does 5 years worth of updates.

AND if you did not know Android OS runs off a Linux kernel, so unless you click, install, or otherwise compromise your security your safe...

And you sound like your into security, I found an app on the play store, real nice, VPN/firewall/DNS settings all in one app, it's called "rethink"

Google is actually up to 7 years of both on their new phones the 8A, 8 and 8 Pro. Samsung depending on which you buy, I was actually looking at the plain S24 and they do 7 years of both OS and security also. The S23 I think is 4 years of OS and 5 security.

My G Power 2022 I think had it last security update which is sad. I am not tech savvy enough to understand how important these security updates are. I have researched it and it seems like a 50/50 split on how important these security updates are. I don't use my phone for banking or anything but I do have Chrome installed and it is synced with my laptop and desktop which are used for ordering things and such. That is what I'm worried about a little about security on the phone.

Currently only need a 4G phone as that is all that is all that is available in my area and one reason I stuck with a $215 phone when I started, I didn't need anything fancy then. I don't need a phone yet but I was kicking around the idea and checked out the S24 for giggles and Samsung will even take my 2021 on trade for $100 knocking the S24 down to $699 which is still a lot of money for me to part with. I can't even trade it in at Google and Visible I think offers $10 or $15 but doesn't list my 32GB model, only the 64GB model. Not up on getting the latest and greatest so put it out of my head that I don't need a new phone yet. I will wait another year or two and then think about it.

Ya I get that . why I came over unlimited data, with Hotspot.

question is are THEY gonna support it.

And what I mean is pixel updates for 5 to 7 years, doesn't mean visible is gonna support your phone after 2 years...

Hopefully with Visible's update to the system in September 2022 I wouldn't think there would be another system upgrade they would need to make to where they would need to wipe the IMEI database again but I guess that remains to be seen. I would think most current phones made in 2023 and 2024 would be usable until after the updates end. But yeah, one can't say for sure. Visible does seem to be pro iPhone and still seems to support 6 to 7 year old iPhones. Granted as far as Pixel I think they only support 6 or later. Samsung I see that most had to do work arounds to to APN settings to get an S10 to work and that is 5 years old.

Ya ony 2021, and this one 2023, the APN is locked out.  no add or edit.

dunno brother, I think they're looking for cash to cover the unlimited offers.

guess we'll see.

like I said it's a 2023 Motorola, it'll update till 2025.

and I guess I'll see if visible keeps up.

If not I'll go back to boost.

got time to see....
