Unlocking phone in India

I want to buy a phone from visible as a gift to someone in India. The phone will be in India after 60 day lock-in period completion. I will pay full price of the phone while buying it itself. I would like to know if I can unlock the phone from India. My concern is that there won't be a "visible" network available to the phone in India.

You would have to activate and use it for 60 days then get it unlocked and send it afterwards. I don't know the procedure for unlocking a phone from Visible and if it entails contacting Visible by phone you could not do that from India because there is no roaming there on the Visible plan. You might be better off buying a phone directly from a manufacturer and send that instead, you would have to make sure it is able to be used with a carrier their.
