yesterday
I have an unlocked Pixel 6, Android 15. I recently saw in a Pixel forum that that model's modem isn't that great (plus it overheats at times). I've found that to be true when I was staying outside Tucson, AZ proper. In that community, I had no service in the casita (except the wifi), or anywhere else, until I walked down the street to explore the wash, and suddenly the phone rang and it was Visible following up on my support call on not having service there (which I made using the wifi from their community center).
I haven't been out of state (CA) except for AZ, since I've had this phone, nor out of country. There is a (driving) trip to Baja California, Mexico. I'm told there is no mobile service though there should be wifi at the station. However, I want to be able to use GPS to save my tracks. Here, if I'm someplace with no service, which happens at certain nearby parks, I put the phone on airplane mode so it doesn't use battery searching, but I can still record my tracks.
I'm not sure what happens in someplace like Baja, or in Costa Rica in another similar area. The last time I was in Ecuador, I had a different phone (Moto G Power) so purchased a local service SIM (GSM) at the airport, for data.
Do I need to do anything in order to use GPS for on-device mapping?
