From what I have read and what others are suggesting is to switch it to Wi-Fi before leaving the US and use data on public Wi-Fi in the UK. Visible will only work outside the US in Canada or Mexico and only on the plus plan. You will not be able to roam elsewhere. If the phone is unlocked you could get a temporary SIM in the UK and activate that for the duration you are there.
