Leaving Party Plan for new upgrade plan

I am currently part of a two-member party plan. What will happen to the other member's plan/monthly charge if I leave the party plan for a new upgraded Visible or Visible+ plan?

Nothing, they are locked in at the old rate.

Are we REQUIRED to update our service? Will our service just stop working if we don't.  I'm pleased with my service and price and I'm not interested in updating. I only read horror stories of how slow the service has gotten. Any help will be appreciated.
