Internet access and the esim

I am travelling to Japan soon and need internet access.  Can I temporarily install an eSIM card from a Japanese carrier without losing my current phone number?  I know I can enable the global access but I want a faster connection while I am there.  I’m thinking this won’t work because you would need an unlocked phone in order to do it.

Is your Visible number on eSIM?

What mobile do you have? Check if it supports dual eSIM or 1 physical SIM and 1 eSIM?

Is your device bought from a mobile service provider? If so is it unlocked? If not then they may have restrictions. If the device is bought from visible then it will be auto unlocked after 60 days.

I am a new Visible customer. My phone allows 2 esims. My visible cellular line is on the first esim.  Can I install a temporary esim for travel in Japan on the Second?
