Email invalid

I am trying to start an account and get a plan up and going but when I get to the page where it asks for my email, when I type it in I get the message “An email address can only have letters (a-z), numbers(0-9), special characters (-_+), or periods(.)” For context my email has no strange characters or letters that would set this off. Could it possibly be the “@” in the @gmail.com

I use an @gmail.com address for my account without issue

I think it is worded incorrectly. You can use letters and maybe numbers but you can't have a period, dash, or any other character in your name before the @, such as john.smith or john-smith. Don't think they can have any special characters after the @ either. @gmail.com works, I use @msn.com address with no issue.
