Buying a New Phone and Service

HI .. I am new to Visible and wanted to transfer from T-Mobile to take advantage of the savings.  When you try to purchase a new phone you select a plan but it doesn't allow you anywhere to choose to activate at a later date.  You step through the entire process of asking for your #, carrier, account # transfer pin and then the the next says as soon as you select continue the process will start and they will cancel the number for you with your old carrier. 

It appears to me is that as soon as you hit continue you will lose your current carrier and when your new phone arrives it will have your old  number?  It doesn't seem like a very clear process.  I decided to stay with T-Mobile and avoid the possible headache
